Esbjerg Guide

Located on the west coast of the Jutland Peninsular, in the south west of Denmark, Esbjerg is a city and port that is roughly 70 km to the west of Kolding and 165 km to the south west of Aarhus. It is Denmark's fifth largest city and the largest on the Jutland Peninsular. The city's harbour, the second largest in Denmark, has played an important role in the city's development and in addition to fishing and shipping the city and its surrounding area became an important hub for agricultural exports.

There are a number of museums and entertainment venues in the city for visitors to enjoy. The Esbjerg Art Museum was founded in 1910 and moved to a new building in the City Park. The museum's permanent collection includes Danish works from the beginning of the 20th century through to the present day. It also includes works by artists who have influenced Danish art. Since 1997, the museum has formed part of a complex which also contains the Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre which is a concert hall and theatre.

A single passenger ferry route operates from the Port of Esbjerg to Harwich in England. The service is operated by DFDS Seaways with an average of four sailings per week. The port is Denmark's western gateway and is a busy facility that provides passenger and cargo services.

Harwich Guide

The town and port of Harwich is located in the English county of Essex and is the United Kingdom's second busiest passenger ferry port, with Stena Line operating the popular ferry route to and from the Hook of Holland.

Passenger facilities in the Harwich ferry terminal have been upgraded recently and now include waiting lounges, a bureau de change, cafes and restaurants. There is also an efficient and streamlined check-in system, significantly reducing waiting times for foot and vehicle passengers.

There is far more to Harwich than its port and there are many things for visitors to do and see. Popular attractions include the Ha'Penny Pier Visitor Centre on the Quay, where there are guided walking tours throughout the summer that take in sites including the Electric Palace Cinema, Redoubt Fort and a number of museums and lighthouses.
