Ferries from Honduras to Roatan Island

About Honduras

Honduras is a Central American country bordered by Guatemala to the west, El Salvador to the south and Nicaragua to the southeast. Like most nations on the continent, Honduras is scattered with ancient Maya ruins, with the most significant found in the city of Copan. It was one of the most important of all Maya civilisations which today, offers some spectacular architecture and fascinating hieroglyphics. However, Honduras’ most appealing feature is the wide selection of diving and snorkelling spots in pristine waters. Some of the best sites are close to the Bay Islands off the north coast, which are fringed by the second largest barrier reef in the world. They also boast immaculate beaches and lush, forested interiors. The Bay Islands are popular amongst tourists, so there are decent ferry services available. Multiple crossings are provided every day from the city of La Ceiba on the north coast to Roatan Island, the most visited of the archipelago.

About Roatan Island

Roatan is the largest and most popular of the Bay Islands, situated 30 miles north of the Honduran mainland in Central America. Sitting above the second largest coral reef in the world, Roatan Island is renowned for its superb scuba diving and snorkelling, with remarkably diverse marine life to be found beneath the surface of the crystalline water. The island boasts some stunning beaches, too, most notably in West Bay and West End. They have powdery-white sand, excellent restaurants and vibrantly coloured coral reef just a short swim away. After a morning of snorkelling, be sure explore the mountainous inland, as it is blanketed with lush pine forest offering some excellent walking trails. The ferries on Roatan Island depart from Dixon Bay on the southwest coast, where you can sail to La Ceiba on the north coast of Honduras. Numerous routes are provided by a popular local ferry company.
