About Mexico

Mexico is bordered by the United States to the north and Central America to the south, known for its diverse landscape, ancient ruins and popular cuisine. Throughout the country lie remnants of Mexico’s prehistoric past, with Mayan and Aztec temples found almost everywhere. The world-renowned Chichen Itza tops the list, situated in the Yucatan region to the east. Its 10,000-kilometre coastline is blessed with many superb beaches, with shorelines facing the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of California and North Pacific Ocean. The capital, Mexico City is the financial and cultural hub, with a flourishing culinary scene and beautiful historic centre. It also boasts plenty of stunning architecture and royal buildings, earning it the nickname ‘the city of palaces’. With such a large coastline, travelling by ferry is a great way to get around in Mexico. The beautiful Baja California Sur is easily reachable from a couple of ports on the west coast, with frequent crossings operated by a popular local ferry company.

About Baja California Sur

Mexico’s youngest state, Baja California Sur, forms the southern half of the namesake peninsula in the northwest. As bizarre as it is beautiful, Baja California Sur is one of the country’s most charming and fascinating regions. Amongst the arid terrain grows some peculiar vegetation, unfamiliar to foreign tourists. The most notable being the boojum tree, shaped like an upside down parsnip. But, there are some classically photogenic backdrops, too. Sublime beaches line the coast and stunning geological formations like ‘Land’s End’ are sure to take your breath away. It’s also home to one of the largest protected reserves in Latin America. Further south stands the capital, La Paz, a cosmopolitan city with pretty promenades and plenty of shops. Los Cabos is another popular tourist haunt, thanks to its buzzing nightlife, impressive cathedral and excellent whale watching excursions. Sailing across the Gulf of California by ferry is an easy and convenient way to reach Baja California Sur. From a couple of cities in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, there are regular ferry crossings to La Paz.
