Malmo Guide

The Swedish city of Malmo is the capital of Skane County. The city has been transformed since the construction of the Oresund Bridge, which is a double-track railway and road bridge across the Oresund strait between Scania, in southern Sweden, and Denmark. The once struggling city has been rejuvenated with new buildings and the influx of new business, including biotech and IT companies. Despite the recent developments, the city has retained its small and friendly atmosphere and has a great choice of cultural attractions, including the new Moderna Musee Malmo which is in a disused power station and exhibits contemporary international works of art. There is also a good selection of quality restaurants, cafes and bars in the city.

Located in the Malmohus Castle Building are the Malmo Art Museum, the City Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the Science and Maritime House Museum. This is perfect for visitors that plan to visit them all in one day. Another place in Malmo that is worth the visit is the Malmo Konsthall which is known for its function and aesthetics and the use of light and space in its gallery.

Ferries from the port in Malmo depart to Travemunde in Germany.

Travemunde Guide

The German city of Lubeck is well known for its many Gothic buildings and for its tasty marzipan. Perhaps the most popular tourist attraction in the city is the 15th century Holstentor gateway, which has a truly fairytale appearance with its two cylindrical towers. A charming medieval city lies behind this where visitors will find many other historic buildings which has resulted in the city being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 1980's. In fact, most of the city's most popular attractions are to be found in the Old Town area, known as Altstadt.

Nearby, the city's large ferry port lies on the shores of the Baltic Sea, within the suburb of Travemunde, where you will also find several pleasant sandy beaches and have a true feel of seaside tourism. Around Lubeck and its many public squares you will find a number of historical attractions and notable landmarks. Of particular interest is the 13th century Town Hall (Rathaus), the beautiful 12th century Dom (Lubeck Cathedral), the beautiful palatial architecture of Rantzau Castle (Schloss Rantzau), and the Heiligen Geist Hospital, the oldest hospital in Germany, which dates back to 1227.
