Zakynthos Guide

The Greek island of Zakynthos, or Zante, is one of the most popular, and beautiful, of the Ionian islands. It lies to the south of the island of Kefalonia and is known for its crystal clear waters and very lively nightlife, which combine to make it a popular holiday destination for younger tourists. The most famous beach on the island is Navagio with its golden sand and lovely warm, blue waters. A popular excursion whilst on the island is to take a boat trip to Navagio and to the Blue Caves. Other great beaches on Zakynthos include Vassilikos, Gerakas, Spiantza and a number of others on south coast. Due to their soft sand and clean water, these beaches are used as breeding spots for the loggerhead sea turtle known as the Caretta-Caretta.

Zakynthos has two ports. The main port is located in the Zakynthos town with the other in the village of Agios Nikolaos. From the main port there is a connection to the port of Kyllini, which is the usual route for arrivals to the island by sea from the mainland. From the port of Agios Nikolaos there is a connection to the port of Pesada on the island of Kefalonia .
