Puerto del Rosario Guide

The Spanish town of Puerto del Rosario lies on the east coast of the island of Fuerteventura in the Las Palmas province in the Canary Islands. Once named Puerto de Cabras (Goat Harbour) the town developed into a major port after becoming the island's capital from La Oliva during the 19th century. The town's current name was changed in 1956 after the church located in the town's centre which is dedicated to the patron saint Virgin del Rosario.

The town's infrastructure is geared more towards industry and commerce rather than tourism, which is not that well established. The oldest part of the town, around the harbour, is where you will find narrow alleys lined with old Canarian style houses. However, one attraction that is worth visiting is the home of the former exiled poet Miguel de Unamuno which is now a museum. Work has been underway for a few years to improve the town's beaches so that they can be awarded Blue Flag status. The town's largest beach is called Playa Blancal and is located to the south of the town.

Ferry services from the town's port depart to Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Morro Jable.

Las Palmas Guide

The Spanish city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the capital of the island of Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. The city lies in the north eastern part of the island and sits across two bays and a number of lovely beaches. The city was founded in 1478 and has an important cultural and historical heritage which seems to be centred in the district of Vegueta which is the oldest part of the city and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. The city is also home to one of the most important ports, Puerto de la Luz, in Europe which helps to give the city a lovely cosmopolitan feel. There are many things to see and do in the city but a short distance away from the city's centre visitors will find lovely beaches and crystal clear waters.

From the city's port ferry services provide connections to several islands (Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, Tenerife) and also the south of Spain (Huelva and Cadiz).
