Tangier Guide

The city of Tangier is located in the north of Morocco on the North African coast, at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibralta, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The city has been under the rule of a number of different civilisations during its long and interesting history, which began in the 5th century BC. There are numerous development projects ongoing in the city which includes new projects along the bay for tourism, a modern business district named Tangier City Centre, a new airport terminal and a new football stadium. The new Tangier-Med port is also expected to provide a huge economic boost to the city.

The Kasbah towers over Tangiers' old town. The ancient fortifications were once part of the city's defences but today many have been turned into private residences, hotels, museums and restaurants. A popular attraction with tourists is the Kasbah Museum which is located just off Place du Mechouar and on display are relics from the Stone Age through to the beginning of the 20th century all of which shed light on the city's past. There is evidence in the museum of the many peoples who have inhabited or ruled this region. Not to be missed is a beautiful mosaic taken from the Roman city of Volubilis and a nice stroll through the Sultan’s Gardens.

Tarifa Guide

The town of Tarifa is located in the Andalusia region of Spain and has around 10 km of white sandy beaches, an unspoilt countryside and is one of the best windsurfing destinations in Europe. The town lies across the 11 km Strait of Gibralta, at its narrowest point, on the southern tip of Europe where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. From the town there are lovely views to be had of the Rif Mountains and of Africa across the strait. The charming town is characterised by its narrow cobbled streets, lined with wrought iron rejas and Jasmine, and is a beautiful place to wander through. The original city walls of the ancient town have somehow managed to be incorporated into the construction of the town's whitewashed houses, although most of what can be seen today was built in the 18th century.

There are regular ferry services between Tarifa and Tangier and bus services between Tarifa and Algeciras, about 20 km to the northeast, and Seville about 200 km to the north.
